September

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL DAY HIKE - VA - B2
Join us for a 14-mile 'out-and-back' hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Appalachian Trail. We are hiking 7-miles (South to North) from Snickers Gap to the Blackburn Trail Center where we will have lunch and are returning by the same route. The elevation gain is approximately 1500-ft, however our return is mostly downhill.

SUNDAY, SEPTERMBER 14 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL DAY HIKE - VA - B2
Join us for a 14-mile 'out-and-back' hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Appalachian Trail. We are hiking 7-miles (North to South) from Keys Gap to the Blackburn Trail Center where we will have lunch and are returning by the same route. The elevation gain is approximately 1200-ft, and less difficult than the previous hike and our return is mostly downhill.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 - DAY HIKE - C & 0 CANAL TO WV-9, WVA - B2
Join us as we launch our attempt to section-hike the complete Tuscarora Trail this year. We're starting somewhere in the middle. This hike is relatively flat with an elevation gain of approximately 360ft; however we are going after distance - 18-miles. Catch your breath! It's an 'Out & Back' so you can do as little or a much as you like at your own pace. FRIDAY 17 - SUNDAY 19: JOURNEY AROUND MARYLAND CYCLE & CAMP

SATURDAY/SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25 & 26 - ASSATEAGUE ISLAND BACKPACK AND CAMP
join our annual trip to this exciting location on the Atlantic Ocean. From the visitors center we make a 4-mile trek to Little Levels campground, pitch our tents and call it home. While there we have dinner, night hike and spend time on the beach. The next day we watch the sunrise, have breakfast, scout the island for ponies and other sites, have lunch and make our return journey during the late afternoon.
This is a great backpacking-camping opportunity for the serious novice.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13 - OPEN HOUSE
Join us on Thursday, November 13, 2008 to kickoff our Winter Season Schedule. During this time of the year we focus on the opportunities that nature provide or demand; this season we will do Winter Hiking, Winter Backpacking and Camping, Indoor Climbing, Winter Cycling, Skiing, Snow Shoeing, and, possibly, Ice Climbing. No matter which activities we engage in they will be adventurous and fun, like they have been every year.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16 - SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN DAY HIKE - MD - B2
Join me on this hike for a nice winter challenge getting to the summit for some spectacular views. We are doing an 8-mile hike with 1400-1700-ft elevation gain. There is a lot of going up on this hike, however it will be worth the effort.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23 - SIGNAL KNOB - DAY HIKE - VA
We're doing a 10.6-mile hike. Because this is circuit hike, meaning we travel in a loop, you will need to be a strong enough hiker to complete the hike. There is an elevation change of approximately 1600ft. Once at the trail-head we will seek to complete the hike in under 5-hours (2.5-miles per hour and lunch).

FRIDAY 28 - SUNDAY 30 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL PEN MAR TO ROUTE 40 / BACKPACK & CAMP ADVENTURE
Join us for our annual post Turkey-Day Backpack & Camp Weekend. We will begin our adventure on the Applalachian Trail at the Maryland-Pennsylvania Border, from there we will hike south along the AT towards Route 40. We will spend three days on the trail, and two nights camping at or near the designated shelters, before heading home. Friday will be our longest day of hiking - nearly 10-miles; Saturday, 8-miles; and Sunday, 7-miles.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 4 - APPALACHIAN TRAIL DAY HIKE - MD
We will do a 9-mile (total)'out & back' hike (snow, rain or shine) from Route 70 to Turners Gap and back. This is a moderate hike with a few ups and downs but no really significant elevation changes. Bare in mind you can do as much or as little of this hike as you desire.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 9 - OPEN HOUSE / GEARING UP FOR WINTER ACTIVITIES
You're invited to attend our New Year presentation on winter adventures - hiking, ice-climbing, skiing, etc. They'll be a gear demonstration and overview of our upcoming activities. Light refreshments will be served.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11 - PATAPSCO STATE PARK - DAY HIKE
Join us for a 3.4-mile hike of the Switch Back Trail which provides a continuous view of the North Branch of the Patapsco River. We will stop at the waterfall for a bit of sight-seeing before bringing the hike to an end.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 18- CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN TRAIL DAY HIKE - MD - B2
Join me on an 11-mile out and back hike along this popular trail from Gambrill State Park Road to Hamburg Road. The elevation change is a moderate 700ft. Because this is an 'Out & Back' hike those of you who wish not to complete the entire hike can do as little or and as much as you like. The lead group, however, will be encouraged to keep a pace of between 2 and 2 1/2-MPH that we may complete the hike in 4 1/4 to 5-hours.

Join us on this 13-mile 'out-and-back' hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains, from Harpers Ferry to Keys Gap, along the Appalachian Trial in Northern Virginia. We will hike 6 1/2 miles from Harpers Ferry to Keys Gap and return by the same route. Our elevation gain is approximately 1200-ft. Of course you can turn around at any point if you do not want to do the entire hike.

FRI- MON / FEB 13-16 / SOULS ON ICE™ - WINTER SPORTS EVENT - SKIING, SNOW-SHOEING, ICE CLIMBING, SNOW BOARDING...
Join us for a trip to Keene and Lake Placid Ny for a holiday weekend to enjoy winter sports at its best. This event includes Ice-Climbing, Snow Shoeing, Hiking, Cross Country Skiing, Down-Hill Skiing, Snow Boarding, Bob-Sledding, Tobogganing, and spending time in one of the most winter scenic areas on the East coast - the Adirondack Mountains.

Souls On Ice™ is for beginners and the experienced; there will be instructors and guides leading each event, so this is not a matter of what you don't know or have not done before, this is an opportunity to learn and experience something new (if you haven't) and to enjoy winter sports in a way that we don't often get the chance to.

Your registration includes choice of one activity (including instruction & guide) per day. During the evening we will 'hit the town' to enjoy the sites and other opportunities - e.g. visiting the U.S. Olympic Center and enjoying the many restaurants around.

FRIDAY - MONDAY, MAY 22 - 25 - JOURNEY AROUND MARYLAND (JAM) - CYCLE AND CAMP
Spend four days cycling around Maryland with Journey Outdoors. Our tour will start in Baltimore City from whence we will head north and east towards the Eastern Shore. We will cycle the Eastern Shore south; crossing the Bay Bridge (by vehicle of course), we will head north back to Baltimore. Our food and essential gear - including tents will be transported by vehicle along the way.
